The ingredients in this simple lasagna couldn’t be easier. You probably have many of them in your pantry already. For this recipe, you will need:

  • Browned Ground Beef
  • Browned Italian Sausage
  • Minced Garlic
  • Spaghetti Sauce
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Cottage Cheese
  • Parmesean Cheese
  • Lasagna Noodles

You can leave out the Italian sausage and substitute more beef. You can substitute all of the meat for ground turkey for a lighter version of this lasagna.

You can add other seasonings to these simple crock pot ingredients to give this lasagna dinner any flavor you like.

You might even try using fresh basil, oregano and garlic to enhance the flavor or even try making your own pasta sauce!

You can always make the sauce and meat ahead of time and freeze them to make the prep for this meal even faster!

Prep before cooking

Before you can begin layering your lasagna in your slow cooker, there are a few steps you should take. First you should make sure you have your meats browned.

You should also mix your cheeses in a large mixing bowl until they are well combined into a thick cheese mixture.

Finally, mix your seasonings into your pasta sauce well. I recommend whisking to prevent the dry seasonings from clumping.

Can you brown meat in the crock pot?

If you meal prep, browning your meat is one of the most time saving things you can do for your week. If you have a lot of meat to brown, you can certain brown ground beef in a crockpot to save time.

You could also pre brown the Italian sausage. If you brown and combine your meats ahead of time, you can even freeze them to use them at a later date.

Directions for Slow Cooker Lasagna

After gathering your ingredients, begin with a clean crockpot and cover the bottom with a thin layer of prepared pasta sauce. This should already have your seasonings mixed in. Then layer your first layer of lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.

Depending on the shape of your crockpot, you may need to break your lasagna noodles to insure that you create a complete layer of noodles. You should also make sure that your noodles are actually in the pasta sauce so they will cook thoroughly.

Next you will add another layer of sauce and top with a layer of the meat mixture making sure to spread the mixture evenly across the noodles.

Mix all of your cheeses together making sure to reserve enough of the mozzarella to top the lasagna at the end.

After you create your cheese mixture, layer a generous portion of the mixture on top of the meat layer and spread evenly.

After the cheese layer, you will start over with a new layer of pasta, then follow it with sauce and so on until you have the desired number of layers.

You should make sure you add enough sauce each time to allow the lasagna to be moist and not dry out during the long cooking process.

When you finish layering the lasagna, top it off with your reserved mozzarella cheese, place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high for 2 hours or 6 hours on low.

When you finish cooking, cut into the lasagna, dip out and serve!
