Ice Cream Sandwich Cake Ingredients
This easy ice cream sandwich cake couldn’t be easier. It has only three ingredients:
- Ice Cream Sandwiches
- Caramel Topping
- Whipped Topping
I typically use the Cool Whip brand whipped topping for this recipe. They extra creamy variety works really well. You can also use the lite version if you prefer.
To change the flavor, you can use a butterscotch topping instead of the caramel sauce.

You can also add a container of chocolate sauce or hot fudge ice cream topping to to the recipe to give it some extra chocolate flavor.
No matter the ingredients you add, freezing this recipe as soon as possible after layering the ingredients will keep the layers and flavors distinct.
You can also sprinkle any flavor of crushed up candy on top as a decoration and to add additional flavor.
How to make an ice cream sandwich cake
Making this yummy ice cream sandwich cake is easy enough that your kids can make it. It actually makes a fun summer project for the family.
First, in a 9×13 glass baking dish, spread a small amount of the caramel ice cream topping in the bottom. Then open four to six of the regular size ice cream sandwiches and cover the bottom of the dish in one single layer.
Drizzle half of the remaining caramel topping over the layer of sandwiches. Then cover that with a layer of whipped topping.
Next create another layer of sandwiches, then drizzle with the remaining caramel topping and cover that with the remaining whipped topping.
When your pan is full, your recipe is complete!

- Drizzle two tablespoons of caramel on the bottom of a 9x13 glass dish.
- Cover the bottom of the pan with one complete layer of ice cream sandwiches.
- drizzle 1/2 of the remaining caramel topping on the sandwiches.
- Cover the caramel and sandwiches with half of the whipped topping.
- Add another layer of ice cream sandwiches.
- Drizzle the remaining caramel topping.
- Cover with the remaining whipped topping.
- Freeze for 30 minutes.
- Cut and serve.
Top with crushed candy or cookies as desired.
