How to have a Christmas in July Movie Night

My children, especially my daughters, love Christmas movies! It is not uncommon to find them watching their favorite Christmas Movies, like White Christmas with Bing Crosby, any time of year.

We used to only watch Christmas movies as a family after Thanksgiving and through the holiday season, but when Christmas in July became a thing, that gave us a reason to do a Christmas movie marathon in the middle of the year.

Where to Find Christmas Movies in July

Netflix

Netflix has a few Christmas movies available all year long, but they have quickly jumped on the Christmas in July bandwagon and upped their game. In July they offer a full selection of Christmas movies including everything from Santa Buddies to How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

They even offer several of their own Netflix Original Christmas movies like Christmas Chronicles and A Christmas Prince.

Netflix is also super affordable at less than twenty dollars per month. Click here for a free 30 day trial!

Amazon Prime Movie

Amazon Prime Movie also has a great selection of Christmas movies available with the prime membership. The extra benefit of Prime Movie is the ability to rent or purchase additional movies and stream them from your account.

Hallmark Channel’s Christmas in July

The Hallmark Channel has made this family fun night easier than ever! Christmas in July starts sometime around the last week of June on Hallmark. Here are a few tips to get the most out of their free movies:

  • Watch for the Christmas in July movie schedule to post. They usually offer an email reminder service.
  • Choose the movies you want to use for your movie night and set your DVR to record them.
  • Be sure to schedule your movie night after the movies you want to see have aired.

Decorate Your House for Christmas

Decorating your house for Christmas in the middle of the summer can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you don’t want to unpack all of your usual Christmas decor for one night of movies. Here are a few easy ways to get it done without all the hassle of dragging the tree down from the attic:

  • Use spray snow on the windows. This might take a little more clean up the next day, but its fun and gives a cool effect when the lights are out.
  • Use candles. Candles of all colors give that Christmas glow effect at night.
  • Wrap all the pictures on your walls in leftover wrapping paper.
  • Use red and green plastic ware, cups, and plastic table cloths from the birthday section of your local discount store.

Wear Christmas Pajamas

A new set of Christmas pajamas in July is the perfect gift for your family. They provide a gift to open and something to wear for the party. If you are including friends, you could encourage them to wear the Christmas pajamas as well.

If you didn’t plan ahead and buy end of the season clearance Christmas pajamas in January, you can still find them on Amazon or even on Etsy. These are some of my favorites.

Serve Christmas Food

This is probably my favorite part of the whole movie night. There are so many delicious Christmas treats that we used to only enjoy once a year. Now we make a few of them in the middle of the summer for this special night. Some of our favorites are:

  • Crock Pot Candied Pecans
  • Peppermint Hot Chocolate
  • Christmas Sugar Cookies
  • Peanut Butter Fudge

Since its a movie night, you can pre-string popocorn to use as decorations and eat it off the strings during the movie. This is a win-win! Clean up and snacks all in one!

Create a Christmas Atmosphere

Make your house feel a little more like Christmas by dropping the temperature a couple of degrees. You can also diffuse some Christmas smelling oils like Young Living’s Christmas Spirit Blend or you could make a quick Stove Top Holiday Simmer.
